During the early 1900s the ideas that founded the United States of America started to die. From the invasion of the Socialist ideals (thank you Eugene Deb, no one can call the man a quitter with 5 presidential runs) in the main stream, to the Japanese internment camps, to the fascism of McCarthyism, to the Kent state shootings, and finally it's death on Oct 26 2001 with the Patriot act. Now one is unpatriotic for promoting the principles of the original USA.

"An avidity to punish is always dangerous to liberty. It leads men to stretch, to misinterpret, and to misapply even the best of laws. He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself." - Paine

"A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty. The means of defence against foreign danger, have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretext of defending, have enslaved the people." -Madison

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" -Franklin

"What a stupendous, what an incomprehensible machine is man! Who can endure toil, famine, stripes, imprisonment & death itself in vindication of his own liberty, and the next moment . . . inflict on his fellow men a bondage, one hour of which is fraught with more misery than ages of that which he rose in rebellion to oppose."
-Jefferson

"Is there any need to offer proof that this odious perversion of the law is a perpetual source of hatred and discord; that it tends to destroy society itself? If such proof is needed, look at the United States [in 1850]. There is no country in the world where the law is kept more within its proper domain: the protection of every person's liberty and property. As a consequence of this, there appears to be no country in the world where the social order rests on a firmer foundation. " - Bastiat

United states of America I will miss you dearly.

There is still hope in my opinion...
It's not dead, but deathly sick...
There are still people who think like real Americans...
We just have to educate the public...
And someone decent has to run for president for once...
The world needs to get their priorities straight.
Our country is better than many, but it's still turned into a fine mess.

I very rarely see such an excellent representation of what I consider true patriotism. I was always disturbed by stories like 1984, because the losses of freedom discribed so closely mimicked or modern culture. It's refreshing to read something that is so close to my viewpoint online, as most people are either so blinded by their patriotism that they can't see the current state of events, or they've been seemingly brainwashed by 'hate America' propaganda.

I love the U.S., but sometimes it seems like what makes this country beautiful will be gone in just a few years.

This is just awesome. I'm not even patriotic myself, but I totally respect this. You're actually educated about your patriotism and understand both the good and bad in the United States and that it's currently in a horrible state. I don't even like the founding fathers that much, no offense, but I love how you understand what you're defending and what you love. Great job :+fav:.
